  24.             LIAS  is  the  Library  Information  Access  System  of  the
  25.             Pennsylvania  State  University  Libraries.  It includes the
  26.             online catalog and access to other databases/services.   The
  27.             catalog  contains  approximately  1.5 million unique titles,
  28.             representing not only the holdings at  the  main  campus  at
  29.             University Park, but also the holdings of Penn State Harris-
  30.             burg;  Penn State Erie, the Behrend College;  Great  Valley;
  31.             and  the  seventeen  Commonwealth  campuses.  In addition to
  32.             monograph and serial records,  LIAS  provides  bibliographic
  33.             access  to  the  the  maps collection, musical scores, sound
  34.             recordings, archive and manuscript collections, parts of the
  35.             government  documents  and  microforms  collections, and the
  36.             machine-readable data files available on campus.  LIAS  also
  37.             provides access to the collections of Audio-Visual Services,
  38.             the Paul Robeson Cultural Center,  and  the  National  Cable
  39.             Television  Center  and  Museum.  Databases include ERIC and
  40.             electronic journals. Some databases are restricted  to  Penn
  41.             State faculty, staff, and students.

  45.             Telnet, preferably using VT100 emulation,  to  lias.psu.edu.
  46.             When  the  telnet  session  is  established,  the  user will
  47.             receive a message similar to:

  72.             You can negotiate VT100 emulation at this point. If you have
  73.             emulation  problems, try typing  terminal VT100 at the ">>>"
  74.             prompt.

  76.             Now begin searching the LIAS database.  LIAS does  not  dif-
  77.             ferentiate  between  author, title, and subjects in its com-
  78.             mand structure.  Simply enter the words you wish to search.
  79.  
  80.             To see a list of databases that are available, type "SELECT"
  81.             and press return.

  83.             The user can type "HELP LIAS" for information.  For  a  list
  84.             of  LIAS commands, type "HELP COMMANDS."  The extensive help
  85.             command structure can answer most questions about  the  sys-
  86.             tem.

  88.             To exit the system and close your connection, type "END"  or
  89.             "EXIT."

  93.             The Penn State Library Information Access System  is  avail-
  94.             able  to  all members of the Internet community. Some of the
  95.             databases available through this service may  be  restricted
  96.             to use by Penn State faculty, staff, and students.
